Day 2: Touring the City

Today we took a walking tour of La Candelaria, Bogota’s vibrant heart, “with landmarks like the colonial-era cathedral and neoclassical Capitol flanking Bolivar Plaza. Narrow streets lined with shops selling emeralds and handicrafts lead to cultural hotspots like the Gold Museum, with pre-Columbian artifacts, and Museo Botero, showing international art in a colonial mansion.” (From Wikipedia)

We took a bus from the hotel, then parked and did some walking. It was a perfect walking tour for me: we walked 2 miles but slowly - walked and stopped, walked and stopped - up and down the hills of Bogota. This area is known for its street art, murals and colorful buildings.

The day started with clouds and rain, but the sun emerged later and it was a gorgeous day! We visited a market where I bought some chocolate and a print from a local artist. Then we visited the Botero museum -Fernando Botero, a Colombian painter whose paintings celebrated the “roundness” of figures, objects and life! They also had a great collection with some Picassos, Chagalls, and Renoirs.
